Fernando Alonso Tuero is an architect founder of ATUERO, an international architectural office based in Basel, Switzerland. From 2013 to 2022, Fernando worked at Herzog & de Meuron in Basel. He studied at the School of Architecture in A Coruña (ETSAC), Spain, with exchange studies at the Polytechnic University of Milan, Italy. He earned his Diploma with Honors in 2011 and was awarded as one of the 20 best Spanish Diploma Projects at the 11th Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU) 2010-2011.
During his studies he worked for several architectural offices including the architect and designer Patricia Urquiola in Milan. Subsequent to his studies, Fernando developed his urban design knowledge at various practices in Brazil, including an experience with Jorge Mario Jáuregui Architects, best known for their projects upgrading Rio de Janeiro's favelas and their integration with the rest of the city. Parallel to his experience in Architecture, Fernando has developed skills in furniture making as well as photography, for which he has been awarded several prizes.
